Handmade Cigar Box Guitar

It's one of my favorites!

My husband, Michael does an awesome job building these cigar box guitars. He hand carves the neck from a fallen black walnut tree that used to stand in his parents' backyard. He carves the neck with vintage tools. The necks are fretless and the markers are burned in. This helps to create an usual and unique playing experience.

The cigar box guitars have three strings. It can be played acoustically or plugged into an amp.

This would make an awesome gift to yourself or someone special!

You can hear a sound clip of one of his cigar box guitars:
You will even find a music video at the bottom of this page where one of his CBGs is played!

Cigar Box Guitars

Country Boy Guitars

Handmade by Michael Squier

These CBGs are amazing musical instruments. Michael hand carves each neck, which is made from a fallen black walnut tree. The fretless necks have burned in markers, which produces a very unique sound. His guitars have open tuning and can be played with a slide or by fretting with your fingers.

Each guitar has its very own unique sound. The different cigar boxes give them a slightly different sound. They can be played as an acoustic or electric guitar. A piezo pick up is mounted inside the bridge, you can hook it up to your own amplifier.

To hear a sound clip of one of Michael's CBGs being played, click here:

Michael creates each of his Country Boy Guitar Cigar Box Guitars using vintage tools. They are definitely an awesome conversation piece, however, they are made to be played!

You can find several of Michael's ready made cigar box guitars in the Cigar Box Guitar section of our Squier Etsy Shop. You can also find a custom order guitar there as well, you can choose the cigar box you would like and choose whether you want it left or right handed.

Folk, rock, delta blues ... you can play anything on these wonderful instruments.

Cigar Box Guitar

Country Boy Guitars

This evening I figured out how to add a sound clip to a web page, something I have never done before. The help guide in my program was rather confusing and no help at all. I have designed many awesome looking websites with cool features. This was the first time I added sound. Ah, the silly things that make you feel so proud of yourself.

Yes, these 3 stringed instruments made from a real cigar box by my husband Michael, really do sound good. Click the link and have a listen:

Maybe you too will want one of your very own!

Cigar Box Guitar

Country Boy Guitars
My husband has created several fun cigar box guitars. They are made with a real cigar box. He adds a black walnut neck which he shapes and carves himself. The black walnut wood comes from a tree fallen in his parents' backyard.

He uses a wood burning tool I gave him years ago to burn in the markers for a fretless neck. He hand cuts the f holes and hand carves the bridge. Puts it all together and adds three guitar strings and suddenly you have a guitar.

They are made to be played and create wonderful sound.

He has a few for sale in a local music shop. Plus I have finally convinced him, he should add them to our Etsy Shop.

Saturday at the Fair

Rainy Day at the Fair
We decided to give art and craft fairs another go. Our first one of the year ended up being a rather rainy day. It was only cloudy when we set up our booth and the weather man did say the rain was supposed to hold off until around 3 pm the time the fair closed. I was okay with that. But then it began to rain, just a light mist. Not too bad even though I was worried about my watercolors. Then it began to rain harder and harder.

My EZ Up Canopy and watercolors slipped inside the crystal clear sleeves held up extremely well. The only thing that didn't hold up well was the parchment paper sign mounted on foam core to advertise my husband's hand made cigar box guitars. It did not get wet, it just absorbed the humidity.

Of course I did not remember to take photos once we got the booth all set up. I took the pictures as we were packing up. The last hour or two was cloudy but rain free. We did get to meet a lot of very nice people.
