January's Painting A Day Challenge

Painting A Day for the Month of January has been posted to my website: http://rasquier.com

I still cannot believe I made at least one painting everyday of the past year. Somedays, I made more than one. I'll have to count them up on my website to see what the final total of paintings were. They're all there, shown month by month.

This was an awesome project!

Lil Red Flowers - July 1, 2010
by Artist Rita Squier

Original Watercolor Painting
Size: 2.5 x 3.5 inches

This little floral painting starts off my Painting A Day Challenge for the month of July, which actually began on February 1, 2010. I am so happy I have decided to keep the Painting A Day Challenge paintings this small miniature size. I do paint larger at times. But this is a nice little size to store and display.

Day 24 of the Painting A Day Challenge

The Chocolate Forest
Painted on February 24, 2010

by Artist Rita Squier

Original Watercolor Paintings
Size: 2.5 x 3.5 inches

I decided to go with mono-toned paintings for today. I chose three colors I knew had a great value range and could also go very dark. With about a foot and half of snow on the ground and cabin fever getting ready to set in I just could not paint snow again today. Maybe tomorrow, there's always tomorrow ... and most likely more snow in the forecast for tomorrow.

Abstract ACEOs

Splat II
by Rita Squier

This is the latest in my series of abstract ACEOs called Splat II.   This original watercolor painting is only 2.5" x 3.5" and done on 140 lb. watercolor paper.

Just a little reminder:  ACEO = Art Cards, Editions & Originals.  They are created by artists to trade amongst each other and to sell to those who would love to purchase fine art from a variety of artists but do not have a large budget to spend on art.  Art Cards are a wonderful way to start up an art collection.  It can become an addicting hobby and luckily most art cards are sold at affordable prices, so if you don't have one to trade, they are easy to buy.

Floral Watercolor ACEOs

Along with painting landscapes, I love to paint flowers.  I tend to paint little free flowing flowers, occasionally allowing the colors to mingle right on the paper.  I have created dozens of these in ACEO (2.5x3.5") size, also 4x6, 5x7, 1/8th sheets ... I have tried a few on 1/4 sheets of watercolor paper but I seem to like the smaller size better for this style of flower.  Most likely, just personal preference in creating these miniature florals.  A popular series of mine were my Autumn Poppies Series filled with orange, red and yellow flowers.

Check out the ACEO section of my Etsy shop for original watercolor florals and more!  ACEOs are definitely a popular size for artists to paint.  On Etsy, I am a member of the street team dedicated to ACEOs.   You can do a search on Etsy for the ACETSY Team to see a variety of ACEOs available there.

Bouquet of Posies seen here, is an original watercolor ACEO only 2.5x3.5" it is one of the many little floral paintings available in my Etsy Shop: http://squier.etsy.com
